“My Lord in Action”
Lesson 2
Luke 8:1 – 10:24

U. Jesus “went throughout every city and village, preaching and showing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God…” – Luke 8:1
“…These that have turned the world upside down…” (Acts 17:6) How?! – By preaching Christ!! --- (Acts 17:2-4)
Think about it! We have the same message! We are now the seed sowers! Luke 8:5-15

V. “He arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.” – Luke 8:22-25
Jesus asked, “Where is your faith?” How about ours in times of trouble? In the life of Paul: Philippians 4:11,13; Acts 16:19-34.
Our Lord: Luke 22:42; 1 Peter 2:21-25.

W. Jesus healed a man with many devils, a woman with an issue of blood for 12 years and raised Jarius’ daughter from the dead. Luke 8:26-56. Yes, He did for them. But our Savior did it also for us. (John 20:30,31)

X. Jesus sent out disciples to “preach the kingdom” of God. And they went “preaching the gospel.” – Luke 9:1-6 (also the 70 Luke 10:1-16) NOTE: The “preaching of the gospel” is the same as preaching the kingdom of God.” The kingdom & the church are the same. (Matthew 16:15-19)

Peter used the keys to the kingdom in preaching the gospel in Acts 2 “and the Lord added to the church daily those that were saved.” (verse 47) after they were baptized (verse 41). They were saved after they repented & were baptized. (verse 38).

Y. Jesus feeds a multitude of people with only “5 loaves & 2 fishes.” – Luke 9:10-17
NOTE: The food multiplied after Jesus “Looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and broke, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude.” (verse 16) AND HE IS MY “MEDIATOR” TO GOD, THE FATHER. (1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 7:25)

Z. Jesus asked many questions, such as: “But whom say ye that I am?” – Luke 9:20
HE WAS AND IS THE MASTER TEACHER. In your life --- who is Jesus? (Acts 2:36) Is He “Lord & Christ?”

P.S. – Even though a few of Jesus teachings could be considered humorous, such as:
(1) A Jew, because of the law straining out a gnat and then
swallowing a whole camel, (Matthew 23:23,24)
(2) OR trying to put a camel thru the eye of a needle.
(Matthew 19:23-26)
Jesus was never accused of primarily being a joke teller.

AA. Jesus took Peter, James and John “and went up to a mountain to pray.” Luke 9:28
As Jesus prayed He was transfigured and talked with Moses & Elijah about His death that should be accomplished. Verses 29-31
NOTE: God first spoke to Moses on a mountain. (Exodus 3:1 – 4:17 – Angel appeared, but God spoke. Also Exodus 19:3-6; God’s presence on the mountain – 19:16-24) And now Moses appears to God in the flesh, Jesus. (Colossians 2:9) and God spoke from Heaven. Verse 35

BB. Jesus healed a devil possessed child that the disciples could not. Luke 9:37-42. The problem was “little faith” (ASV.) Also there was a lack of prayer. (Matthew 17:20; Mark 9:29)
NOTE: Let us say with the father of the child “with tears”: “Lord, I believe; help thou mine disbelief.” (Mark 9:24) (compare to our desire for others to be healed (cleansed) from their sins)

CC. Jesus told his disciples the truth about His death. Luke 9:44 (Matthew 16:21-28; 17:22,23)
NOTE: They seemed not to want to know about the sacrifice. Some seem not to want to hear about our “living sacrifice”. (Romans 12:1,2)
SONG (PAGE 948) – “I Am Resolved No Longer to Linger, Charmed by the World’s Delight”

DD. “Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit.” (ASV) Luke 10:21-24
Look first back to verses 17-20. The 10 were rejoicing because the evil spirits were subject to them. Jesus said, “But rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.” verse 20 (Revelation 20:11-21:8)

We live in joyous anticipation of our Lord Jesus Christ saying:
“Well done good & faithful servant…enter thou into the joy of the Lord” (Matt. 25:23)
